The Constitutional Court (CC) on April 23 will analyze the law on the firing of teachers when the old age pension is set for them so as to determine its constitutionality. The challenge was filed by unaffiliated MP Sergiu Sarbu.
“The teachers who reach retirement will lose an essential source of livelihood, which is the salary. The pensions in the education sector are very low, not speaking about the current economic-financial situation in the country,” the MP has told IPN.
According to the lawmaker, though the declared goal of the law is to ensure the right to work of the young teachers, this is not a reason for infringing the elderly teachers’ right to a decent living.
The legislative body adopted changes to the Labor Code, providing that the work contract of teachers is terminated when they reach retirement. The amendments were proposed by the Ministry of Education.
