Laureates of Ministry of Culture awards made known

The Ministry of Culture offered awards to personalities from literature, theater, choreography and other areas within a ceremony held at the Palace of the Republic in the evening of January 16, IPN reports.

Acting Minister of Culture Monica Babuc said the first thing that springs to mind when we think about culture is that it must be protected. Protecting culture, we protect ourselves and protect humanity that characterizes the people. “Culture must become a national priority,” she stated, noting that only this way can we survive as a nation.

The award “Constantin Stere” in literature was given posthumously to essayist, poet and publicist Eugen Cioclea. The award “Gheorghe Cincilei”, for the promotion of the image of culture in the mass media, was offered also posthumously to journalist, publicist, writer and opinion leader Constantin Tanase, who was a member of Moldova’s first Parliament and a signatory of the Declaration of Independence.

The award “Valeriu Cupcea” in theater went to actor and director Petru Hadarca, who manages the National Theater “Mihai Eminescu”. “Emil Loteanu” in cinematography was given to screenwriter and film director Leontina Vatamanu. “Spiridon Mocanu” in choreography was offered to first ballet master at the Folk Music and Dances Ensemble “Fluieras” Iurie Bivol.

The soprano of the Vienna State Opera Valentina Nafornita received the award “Gavriil Musicescu” in music, while plastic artist Dumitru Peicev won the award “Mihai Grecu” in plastic arts. The award “Isidor Burdin” in the area of intangible heritage was given to weaver Ecaterina Popescu, while “Constantin Stere” in ex-quo literature – to writer and literary critic Eugen Lungu.

The award “Ion Madan” in bibliography and library work went to the director of the National Children’s Library “Ion Creanga” Claudia Balaban, “Stefan Ciobanu” in the area of cultural heritage and museography – to the director of the publishing house ARC Iurie Barsa and authors Constantin Ion Ciobanu and Tudor Stavila.
