“I think what really counts, and, again, we judge not by words, but only by actions, and this is namely what we want to see and expect to see. For now we see positive, good developments, but we concomitantly see also the need for more so that we undertake more,” Latvia’s Ambassador in Chisinau Uldis Mikuts stated, referring to the Moldovan authorities’ activity in the recent past, IPN reports.
“I think it is important to see some efforts, to follow sustainable, concerted efforts that would be aimed at reforms, at the actions we consider necessary. Evidently, we follow attentively the developments in the Republic of Moldova and follow the decisions that are adopted in different sectors and cooperate with the partners from the European Union and with other EU member states, with the Delegation of the European Union to Moldova,” Uldis Mikuts said in the talk show “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel.
The diplomat noted that the integration into the European Union is not an easy path, but the country he represents will offer the Moldovan authorities all the necessary support in this regard.
“As I reaffirmed, as a member state of the European Union, we definitely support the European path of the Republic of Moldova. We can say with certitude that this is not an easy path. I remember very well our own example when we had to adjust the legislation, to adapt to particular practices, standards. We definitely see the necessity for more efforts, in particular in the legal system, the fight against corruption, strengthening of the rule of law, preeminence of the law for more sustainable economic development. Latvia separately, but also as a member state of the European Union, is generally very dedicated, very committed to offer you all the support. Yes, we continue to be near you and are ready to assist you, to help you cope with these challenges in all your actions,” said the European official.
As to the Latvian projects that were already developed in Moldova, the diplomat said he witnessed the implementation of some of them and remained impressed. “Moldova was a priority partner for us as regards the development of cooperation starting with 2005. Really, a considerable number of projects have been implemented since then. Border security is one of my favorite sectors. We offered training, more information and I can say that the border management system was built based on the Latvian example. I know there were service dogs that were transported from Latvia to Moldova and I had the possibility of following these dogs in action and can tell you that I was very impressed by what is going on at the border”.
Uldis Mikuts announced that Latvia’s Embassy launched a new contest of grants for technical assistance in healthcare and in alleviating the socioeconomic consequences of the current crisis.
