Last week’s heavy rains caused substantial damage to some villages in Moldova. Houses and cellars were flooded, roads were deteriorated and dozens of villages were left in blackout. According to the Emergency Cases Department, the heavy rains on Monday, August 13, in Vasilcau village, Soroca district, have deteriorated 8 km of important local roads. About 40 private gardens were flooded with mud. 19 houses and 33 cellars in two villages in Cahul district – Anrusul de Jos and Rosu – were also partially flooded. Three km of local main roads and a bridge were damaged. To 218 workers are being engaged to fight with the consequences of the heavy rains. According to preliminary data, power supply was resumed on August 13 in 8 villages in Telenesti district and 12 villages in Orhei. On August 14 in the morning, 3 villages in Rezina district were also reconnected to electricity. Works for reestablishing power supply are still continuing.
