Last wards for treating persons with COVID-19 made available in Chisinau

The authorities of the capital city said that almost all the hospitals dealing with persons with COVID-19 are packed and the last wards existing in the municiplity will be made available this week. According to mayor Ion Ceban, only the Municipal Clinical Hospital “Gheorghe Paladi” remains for now detached from the process of treating patients with COVID-19. This hospital can provide up to 310 beds for the purpose, IPN reports.

“Over the last three weeks, we have witnessed a surge in the new cases of COVID-19. The municipality of Chisinau continues to be on red alert by the weekly incidence. Chisinau accounts for one third of the cases recorded nationwide. Great pressure is exerted on the municipal hospitals. All the hospitals are overcrowded. As many as 868 persons confirmed with COVID-19 were admitted to municipal hospitals until yesterday. Out of these, 45 were in a very serious state, while 494 were in a serious state,” Ion Ceban stated in the weekly meeting of municipal services. According to him, all the places in intensive care units are occupied.

“We are experiencing the greatest challenge here and we need the immediate support of the central authorities or we will witness a situation when the patients in a critical condition will not have where to be admitted,” stated the mayor.

Ion Ceban also said that health experts anticipated that October will be the month with the highest number of new cases of COVID-19 a day.
