Last events in the case of „Antena C” and „Euro TV Chisinau” can be qualified as state brigandage – Dumitru Braghis

The recent events related to the municipal radio and TV stations can be qualified as state brigandage, leader of the Social Democracy Party Dumitru Braghis says. Braghis told a press conference on Tuesday, December 19 that the recent events referring to “Antena C” and “Euro TV Chisinau” are a proof of the hidden side of the arrangements made in 2005 by President Vladimir Voronin and Iurie Rosca, chairman of the People’s Christian Democrat Party. Bragis also said there are reasons to believe the government is scared that it lost elections in Gagauzia, and therefore tries to totally control the media. The SDP condemns the actions of the communist government and its PCDP allies that aim at throttling the freedom of speech and violating the right of the citizens to fair and unbiased information. The decision on the reorganisation of “Antena C” and Euro TV Chisinau” as well as the last events are hidden actions undertaken in order to intimidate journalists and in order to make it possible for the continuation of mafia-style partition of the media space between the communists and Christian-democrats. The PDS urges the government to stop these actions and start negotiations in order find reasonable solutions. The party calls the civil society to make common cause with the staffs of the 2 stations and to use democratic instruments in order to stop the corrosion of the freedom of speech and ensuring the constitutional right to fair and unbiased information.
