Bacioi-Comservici, the main water supplier in Chisinau’s suburban town of Bacioi, demands raising the water tariff, explaining that the business is currently working at loss. Company’s director Eduard Crudu told the radio station “Radio Sangera” that raising the water tariff is inevitable, especially since the electric energy also increased in price. He said that the current tariff of 2.5 lei per cubic meter of tap water doesn’t cover all costs and expenditures of the business, including wages and taxes. The supplier’s employees are also dissatisfied with the fact that they didn’t receive their wages for 2-4 months and agreed that the only solution is to raise the tariff for water. The community, however, is regarding such an option with reluctance. While some of the people say they couldn’t afford a higher price, others say such a tariff increase was expected once the electricity got more expensive. Bacioi-Comservici supplies water for 1700 houses out of a total number of 3000 in Bacioi town.
