The number of pedestrians who are hit by vehicles on zebra crossings in Chisinau has increased. Deputy head of the Chisinau Police Division Silviu Musuc Monday said the 495 road accidents involving pedestrians that happened in the capital city last year resulted in 29 deaths. In 380 of the cases, the pedestrians were struck at crosswalks. The local authorities asked the police to take measures to ensure the security of pedestrians, IPN reports.
Silviu Musuc noted that 17 traffic accidents occurred in the municipality of Chisinau so far this year. One person was killed, while another 28 were hurt in them.
More than 1,000 road accidents happened in the municipality of Chisinau in 2014. They resulted in 55 deaths. There were started over 1,000 criminal cases against motorists driving under the influence.
