In two weeks the landline telephony connection between both banks of the Nistru could be restored, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Victor Osipov told a meeting at the Moldovan Ministry of Communications, Info-Prim Neo reports. Osipov said that the re-connection is to a great degree contingent on the efforts of the authorities in the Transnistrian region and the local public operator InterDnestrCom. “We have received positive signals from Tiraspol. It is important that this issue was discussed at the latest informal meeting between Prime Minister Vlad Filat and (Transnistrian leader) Igor Smirnov”, said Osipov. “The lack of direct phone connection between the western and eastern sides of the Nistru is one of the main problems which affect the people, because the calls are way more expensive when foreign operators are involved and the quality is poorer. We are in progress of settling this issue. Concrete steps have been already taken to this effect”, added Victor Osipov. Vitalie Iurcu, the director of the national telephony operator Moldtelecom, told the same meeting that technically speaking the re-connection of the landline networks between the western and eastern banks is a matter of a few days.
