Lack of financing thwarts plan to install new dumpsters in Chisinau

The Housing and Public Amenities Division’s initiative to install over 300 new waste container will be suspended due to a lack of financing. Division Head Petru Gontea has told Info-Prim Neo that, following a recent adjustment of the city’s budget, their financing for improving conditions in yards of apartment houses in the city has been cut. “The lack of financial resources for purchasing these dumpsters is just part of the problem. There’s also the problem of waste disposal. More employees are needed to take care of these dumpsters – thus the costs increase”, said Gontea. The project would have required 2 million lei. Asked about the missing bins in the bus stops, Gontea said that the problem won’t be resolved until the situation is settled with EpaMedia, the bankrupt firm that currently owes the stops.
