The Court of Appeals will examine, starting September 26, the case of the Labour Union of Public Services and Authorities of Moldova (USASP) versus the Ministry of Justice. The plaintiff complains that the ministry violated its right to registration. USASP Chairman Grigore Slanina told Info-Prim Neo that the organisation’s statute has been drafted in full agreement with the Law on Labour Unions, while the Ministry’s refusal to register the Union - for the reason that its founders are not legal entities - stands no ground actually. USASP requested 463,000 lei for pecuniary damage and 100,000 for non-pecuniary damage. Grigore Slanina affirms that the compensations are totally justified and that they will go to cover the losses incurred as a result of the refusal to register the Union, including membership fees, losses associated with the failure to join the Confederation of Trade Unions, and missed opportunities for foreign funding. USASP was founded on 3 February 2007 by the representatives of labour unions from a number of mayoralties and other public institutions in the districts of Ungheni, Floresti, Donduseni, Rascani and Chisinau City. The goal of the Union is to protect the social, economic, professional, and cultural rights and interests of its members in relations with public authorities of all levels, employers and patronages, courts of law, etc.
