The National Confederation of Labor Unions CNSM says it is “concerned and confused” by the Government’s latest decision to apparently withhold the payment of the annual bonus for 2020 which public sector employees are entitled to under a 2018 law.
“Under the formal approvals adopted at the Government meeting today, December 3, of adjustments to the draft 2022 State Budget Law for 2022 and the draft 2022 Fiscal and Budget Policy, the annual bonus for employees in the budget sector for 2020 will not be paid”, the Confederation said in a statement.
Moreover, after examining the approvals, the Confederation found that not only is the 2020 bonus withheld, there is also “incertitude as to whether the 2021 bonus will be paid” as well. According to the Confederation, this is “unacceptable” considering the recent rise in energy tariffs and consumer prices.
The Confederation is thus calling on the Government and Parliament to identify the funds needed for paying the bonus to the over 150,000 public sector employees so as to “avoid en masse discontent and tension among employees”.
