The Kuchurgan power plant on Sunday started to use coal in the production of electricity in order to save gas. The decision was announced at the meeting of the crisis cell in Tiraspol, IPN reports.

The central heating system was stabilized last week, and the temperature in the network remains between 50 and 60 degrees. The supply of gas to private houses was stopped, but some of the educational institutions have not been yet heated to ensure a comfortable temperature for children.

97% of the schools and 99% of the kindergartens resumed their activities in the Transnistrian region. Kindergarten No. 15 in Dubăsari remains temporarily closed, and the Tiraspol Interregional University continues using distance learning, according to the documents presented by the so-called local authorities.

The administration of the region also announced that it continues to take measures to manage the energy crisis and gathered a stock of 3,000 cubic meters of firewood and purchased more powerful solid fuel boilers for penitentiary institutions.

Local officials reported serious incidents in the context of the gas crisis in the region: nine cases of illegal logging and 70 fires caused by the incorrect use of stoves and electrical appliances. They resulted in five deaths.

Today, February 10, is the last day when the Transnistrian region is being supplied with gas purchased with funds from the emergency aid offered by the European Union.
