The Christian Liberal Alliance’s candidate for the presidency of Romania Klaus Iohannis is financed by multimillionaire Michael Schmidt, who is married to Renato Usatyi’s sister Veronica, the leader of the Romanian Social Democratic Party’s organization in Moldova Victor Alexeev said in a news conference held at IPN.

According to the politician, Michael Schmidt, who heads the BMW branch in Romania, is one of the best friends and the main backer of Klaus Iohannis. “During the election campaign, Klaus Iohannis lives at Schmidt’s luxury villa in the Primaverii quarter of Bucharest. This villa costs more than Klaus Iohannis’ six houses situated in Sibiu,” stated Victor Alexeev.

“This millionaire of German origin is the man not only of Klaus Iohannis, but also of Renato Usatyi. Renato Usatyi is the man of Moscow. We know that he is a shareholder of Gazprom.”

Victor Alexeev said the group of Klaus Iohannis’ supporters also includes former Premier of Moldova Vlad Filat, who heads the Liberal Democratic Party. “Vlad Filat is only apparently at odds with Renato Usatyi. Filat and Usatyi are old friends. Filat is treated with caution in the United States, but enjoys indulgence in Berlin,” he said, adding that Renato Usatyi, with money from Vladimir Putin and Gazprom, paid the bills for Filat when the Liberal-Democratic leader traveled to Germany.

Victor Alexeev warned that the Russian-German relations are very close and cause concern in the West. Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder now works at Nord Stream, which is a branch of Gazprom. Klaus Iohannis’ relationship with Renato Usatyi gives reasons to believe that the mayor of Sibiu promotes the interests of a foreign state. Therefore, Victor Alexeev called on the Romanian citizens from Moldova to vote for Victor Ponta in the second round of the presidential elections.

The second round of presidential elections in Romania will take place on November 16. Twenty-one polling places were established in Moldova for them, four of which in Chisinau.
