“I follow attentively and with concern the situation in Moldova and I hope that the events that took place in Chisinau in the recent past will not lead to the change of the pro-European option of the administration of Moldova,” the President of Romania Klaus Iohannis says in a message published on a social networking site, quoted by IPN.
“I encourage the Government and Parliament of Moldova to overcome these difficulties that culminated with the events witnessed yesterday and to keep the orientation to the Western values. I firmly believe that the Republic of Moldova can realize its destiny only in the European Union,” reads the message of the Romanian head of state.
On October 15, Liberal-Democartic MP Vlad Filat was deprived of parliamentary immunity by the votes of 79 lawmakers, at the request of the prosecutor general. Immediately after the sitting of Parliament, Vlad Filat was placed under arrest for 72 hours. He is accused of passive corruption and influence peddling.
