“I regret a lot the altercations between the police and participants in the Nistru war as those were clashes between police officers and police officers,” MP of Democratic Party of Moldova Ion Leucă was quoted by IPN as saying in the program “Black Box” on TV8 channel.
According to MP of the Party of Action and Solidarity Igor Grosu, the veterans of the Nistru war became much more active after the separatist regime illegally set up checkpoints in the security zone.
“Altercations weren’t in prospect. We went there, discussed and greeted each other. They handed over their demands to us. The altercations are regrettable. My first thought was that we also protested and there were even tenser situations, but we didn’t see such violence with the use of teargas and all that equipment. I think it was an abuse of zeal as we are comrades,” stated Igor Grosu.
Socialist MP Grigore Novac noted the veterans crossed the red lines, while the police officers didn’t attack the Nistru war veterans without a reason. Those who protested know what it is like to be a police officer and how easy it is for police officers. “Many of them served as policemen and those clashes are thus regrettable. I saw how a police officer dressed in uniform was hit unjustifiably,” he stated.
MP of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” Kiril Moțpan said he travelled to the Buiucani police commissariat where beaten protesters were taken. The police caused serious injuries to them by using force disproportionately. “I took pictures of a beaten man with bruises. Another combatant with broken ribs was taken to the hospital and he was hardy breathing. Another combatant was under intensive care and they didn’t allow me to enter. He was taken to the police station in a coma. The police used force excessively,” he stated.
Altercations between Nistru war veterans and police officers started in front of the Parliament Building when the first allegedly tried to put up tents there during a protest on July 16. A number of veterans were taken to the police station.
