Former Prime Minister Kiril Gaburici invests in the sector of renewable energy. Alongside his partners, he created four photovoltaic parks all over Moldova. Gaburici said the business is costly and becomes profitable in only several years of the launch. He noted Moldova should aim to make sure that 30% of the consumed power is produced from renewable sources of energy, IPN reports.

The ex-Premier noted that given the serious energy crisis experienced by the country, the solution is to capacitate the country to produce energy itself. Moldova can use a mixture of energy obtained from natural gas and green energy. He started a renewable energy business.

“We have four photovoltaic parks all over the Republic of Moldova, but we operate not only in the Republic of Moldova. If we look at the experience of the European countries, the decision to become “greener” was taken there a number of years ago. We have examples when countries of the European Union during weeks consumed only green energy during the day when there was enough sun. Consumption not always coincides with production and electrical energy needs to be therefore stored so that it could be used at night too,” Kiril Gaburici stated in the program “Reflection Points” on Vocea Basarabiei station.

He noted that the state should encourage investments in green energy production capacities. Such investments increase Moldova’s energy security and autonomy.

“This is a business that recoups the investments during a rather long period of time. Given the current energy prices, it becomes increasingly profitable. The investments depend on the size of the photovoltaic park. It can be of 100 kW or 10 MW. Investments total about €700,000-€900,000 per MW. The past year, the elements related to a photovoltaic park grew more expensive given the high demand for such products. We cannot cover 100% of consumption with renewable energy, but it is possible to achieve a target of 20-30% and we can set this goal as a country,” stated the former Premier.

Kiril Gaburici served as Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova in February-June 2015. In 2018-2019, he held the post of minister of economy and infrastructure in the Government led by Pavel Filip.
