The district head’s offices of Chisinau started to remove by force the kiosks situated within 200 meters from education institutions that continue to sell tobacco products even if they were warned to stop doing this. Contacted by IPN, deputy mayor Ilie Ceban said none of the business entities took steps. They were to either stop selling cigarettes or to take away the kiosk by themselves.

Asked about the number of kiosks removed since Mayor General Ion Ceban ordered to withdraw the cigarettes from sale within three days, Ilie Ceban said the kiosks cannot be removed so swiftly as they are many in number. Up to ten kiosks have been taken away in each district during three days.

According to the deputy mayor, the business entities show even greater dissatisfaction when employees of the district head’s office come to remove the kiosk by force. At that moment, everyone is ready to comply and stop selling cigarettes, but it is too late. “The law that provides the kiosks must be situated 200 meters from education institutions took effect one year ago, but these didn’t comply. They were warned for several times,” stated Ilie Ceban.

He noted there are seven business entities that have by 30, 50 or even more kiosks celling cigarettes in Chisinau. The information about the removed kiosks will be synthetized by December 16 and will be presented at the Monday meeting of officials of Chisinau services.
