A man convicted of murder attempted to escape from Prison no.15 in Cricova on Thursday night, but was captured by guards before leaving the prison premises, after being shot in the leg. The Department for Correctional Institutions said in a press release that the inmate managed to force his way through the bars of his cell window, after which he climbed over an internal security gate and walked on the roof of an administrative building towards a sentry tower where he attempted to attack the guards. Ignoring summonses to surrender, he tried to break through the security installations, but was captured after being shot in the leg. The inmate tried to excuse himself by saying that he felt upset after his family didn't visit him during the Open Doors Day at the prison earlier on Thursday, when inmates were allowed to spend one whole day together with family members. The 32-year-old man was sentenced in 2010 to 17 years and 2 months' imprisonment for murder. The prison administration initiated an internal investigation to see how the attempt was possible. In August, two inmates went on the run in separate escapes, but were shortly captured.
