Civil society and the active population of the country have all the instruments needed to fight propaganda that comes from outside and domestic propaganda. In the opinion of Lithuania’s Ambassador to Moldova Kestutis Kudzmanas, in different countries there are different targets that become subjects of the propaganda, but the key to combating misinformation is held by the NGOs, IPN reports.
“The first step that the Republic of Moldova should take is to build a solid civil society and to provide support to NGOs. In Lithuania, the nongovernmental organizations are those that fight the propaganda. The NGOs monitor the propaganda. It is the role of civil society,” Ambassador Kestutis Kudzmanas stated in the talk show “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel.
Kestutis Kudzmanas said that Lithuania’s Embassy organized in Moldova a number of meetings with citizens where it passed on Lithuania’s experience in fighting misinformation and propaganda.
“Such countries as Moldova should be careful. The population is sometimes vulnerable to propaganda. The people cannot make a difference between true and fake news. In Lithuania, we have people who take care of the health of news items. We started the fight against Soviet propaganda long ago,” stated the diplomat.
Kestutis Kudzmanas reminded that Lithuania is one of the most devoted states of the EU as regards the support given to the Republic of Moldova in its path of European integration.
“We do our best to support the economic, democratic development of Moldova. We are among the leaders that support particular projects in the Republic of Moldova. We have over 130 projects here and will continue. I want to note the spheres we supported: strengthening of institutional capacities, consolidation of democracy, civil society, entrepreneurship, regional development, sustainable development, everything that is related to energy projects,” stated the ambassador
The Republic of Moldova was the first country that recognized Lithuania’s independence from the Soviet Union in 1990.
