The European standards and democratic reforms implemented by Moldova contribute to the hastening of the settlement of the Transnistrian dispute, the EU Representative for Moldova Kalman Miszei told Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev at a meeting. According to the Government’s press service, General Ferenc Banfi, head of the European Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM), also took part in the meeting. The interlocutors conferred on European problems and the Transnistrian conflict. Kalman Miszei praised the Moldovan authorities for the steps taken to solve the dispute, expressing his confidence that the joint implementation of projects with the Transnistrian region will give an impulse to the settlement process. The three officials underlined the necessity of strengthening the current relations between Moldova and the European Union. Vasile Tarlev stressed the importance of obtaining autonomous trade preferences, a liberalised visa regime with the EU and better-quality relations with the EU after the EU-Moldova Action Plan is implemented. Kalman Miszei highlighted that the relations between Moldova and the EU are improving and this fact inspires optimism about Moldova’s progress on the path to European integration and in solving the Transnistrian dispute.
