Kaarina Immonen completes her mission in Moldova

Kaarina Immonen has completed her mission as UN Resident Coordinator in Moldova and UNDP Resident Representative in Moldova. On this occasion, she held meetings with Moldovan President Nicolae Timofti, Prime Minister Vlad Filat, Speaker Marian Lupu and Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Popov, Info-Prim Neo reports.
During the meeting with the President, Nicolae Timofti awarded Kaarina Immonen the medal “Meritul Civic” as a token of deep gratitude for her contribution to the promotion of assistance programs in Moldova in different areas, both social and economic. “I am profoundly honored by the acknowledgment the United Nations work received through this distinction”, said Kaarina Immonen. “The United Nations will continue to support Moldova on its European integration path and with achieving its Millennium Development Goals, which will contribute to the implementation of the 2020 Moldova Strategy”, she added.
Kaarina Immonen has served as UN Resident Coordinator in Moldova and UNDP Resident Representative in Moldova since June 2007. Prior to her appointment in Moldova, she worked for the UNDP in Cambodia, Vietnam, Congo, Kenya, South Africa, Georgia and Russia. She will be succeeded by Nicola Harington, who is expected to arrive in Moldova in August.
Moldova became a member of the United Nations on 2 March 1992. Today there are over 20 United Nations agencies and specialized organizations working in Moldova to improve people's lives, especially in rural areas.
