The investors can be interested in the Republic of Moldova, but they will analyze not only the business climate, but also the justice sector and the existence of an investment climate that would secure the investments. “So, the justice sector reform is a very important project and we surely hope that progress will be made in what the EU and the Republic of Moldova agreed by the Association Agreement,” Germany’s Ambassador in Chisinau Angela Ganninger stated in an interview given on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Reunification of the Federal Republic of Germany that is celebrated on October 3, IPN reports.

She noted the banking sector is another area where all the framework conditions should be met for the investors to come. Germany is trying to promote investments, including by dual education that it supports and for which it provided €5 million. Dual education enables the young people in Moldova to obtain training that meets the needs of companies and local industrial plants. It is a combination of theoretical training and practice, with elements of learning at the school and at enterprises.

Germany and the Republic of Moldova have cooperated in the area of development cooperation for about 30 years, more exactly since 1992. Since then, Germany has provided over US$300 million at the state, federal, land and locality levels, plus the projects of civil society, private individuals and foundations.

As regards state assistance for development, in December 2019 alone, Germany accepted to offer €18.6 million for such priority areas as water supply infrastructure and elimination of residual water. A large project to the value of over €20 million is implemented in Cahul district. The Chisinau-Strășeni-Călărași water pipeline is another project.

In 2005-2020, together with the Moldova Social Investment Fund, Germany implemented a wide project in the field of social infrastructure and energy efficiency and partners from all over Moldova could apply to take part in this project. There were renovated kindergartens and schools and improved the energy efficiency of a hospital. Sidewalks and street lighting systems were built. Over 240 projects were implemented in total.

Sustainable economic development, communal infrastructure, public administration and decentralization of communal services are also among important areas. The cooperation for development is ensured directly with partners from regions even if the framework is decided together with the Government.

Germany offered Moldova concrete support during the pandemic crisis too. The Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection was provided with protective suits to the value of €50,000. The suits will better protect hospital personnel from COVID-19.

The money that was to be spent on the reception on the occasion of the national holiday will go to buy protective suits for the Emergency Medicine Institute on October 3.

“We do not cooperate for development in narrow meaning only. We also have multiple cooperation projects in the field of culture. In Moldova, there is a consulate for the German language that gives advice to schools where they speak German. There is also a lecturer of the German Academic Exchange Service who offers consultancy to universities with German language departments. Besides this, the German Language Holiday is organized annually. Regrettably, this year it could not be held owing to the crisis caused by the novel coronavirus. For the same reason, the concert at the Summer Theater didn’t take place. All these events were put off for better time,” stated Angela Ganninger.
