Justice reform discussed by Maia Sandu with European Chief Prosecutor

President Maia Sandu and European Chief Prosecutor Laura Codruța Kövesi discussed the stimulation of the justice sector reform in the Republic of Moldova in a meeting in Brussels on January 17, IPN reports.

In a posting on a social networking site, Maia Sandu said there is mutual interest in establishing a relationship of cooperation between the European Public Prosecutor's Office and the corruption fighting institutions of the Republic of Moldova. “It is a first step towards initiating and carrying out common activities for fighting smuggling and money laundering,” stated the President of the Republic of Moldova.

Maia Sandu is paying an official visit to Belgium. While in Brussels, President Sandu will have meetings with the President of the European Council Charles Michel, President of the European Commission Ursula Von Der Leyen and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borell Fontelles, Vice-President of the European Commission.

She will also have discussions with European Commissioner for Budget and Administration Johannes Hahn, European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders, European Commission for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Olivér Várhelyi, Prime Minister of the UK Alexander De Croo, His Majesty King Philippe of Belgium and President of the European Parliament David Maria Sassoli

The official delegation includes adviser on foreign policy Cristina Gherasimov and vice director of the State Guard and Protection Service Vasile Popa.
