Justice Ministry seizes Chisinau administration cars

The Chisinau folks are soon likely to remain without public transport. The Execution Department of the Justice Ministry has already sequestered the cars of the City Hall and Municipal Council, Chisinau mayor Dorin Chirtoaca told a news conference Tuesday, March 4, Info-Prim Neo reports. The mayor says the cars were seized because the municipality has not honored writs to provide apartments for the last 10 years. The applicants, most of them policemen, prosecutors, employees of the Justice and Defense ministries, appealed to courts and managed to win the lawsuits and now the municipal authorities are obliged to pay the equivalent value of the apartments they are entitled to by law. According to the mayor, by sequestering the transportation means of the local administration, the central authorities make a new attempt to obstruct the activity of the local public authorities, so as to make the municipality insolvent. “After being ordered (by writ) to pay “Termocom” SA 380 mln lei, these 780 mln have added – the cost of those 139 flats required,” Dorin Chirtoaca says. The mayor says, if all the municipal buses and trolleybuses are sequestered, plus those ten cars of the City Hall administration, they’ll make up for only 7-8 mln lei. The other expenses will be put again on the shoulders of the city inhabitants. “It was yesterday that we discussed, at the Council’s sitting, the possibility of taking a loan to finalize the two dwelling blocks for refugees and socially vulnerable in Ciocana district,” the mayor says. Deputy mayor Mihai Furtuna says the local administration does not deal with supplying the representatives of the law-enforcement bodies with apartments, this thing being to be done by ministries and departments, under law. The municipal budget cannot bear such expenses, Furtuna has said, mentioning that every dwelling space getting free is immediately sequestered. Yet the writs are to be executed. The head of the Centru Office of the Execution Department of the Justice Ministry, Igor Doroftei, has obliged the Information Development Ministry to execute the conclusion of the writ signed also by him.
