Minister of Justice Alexandru Tanase said in a press briefing that he hopes the reform of the legal system will not become an electoral campaign subject, but will be a priority for the next legislative body. The statements come after Acting President Mihai Ghimpu criticized the work of the Prosecutor General's Office and of the courts earlier today, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The minister said he is also not satisfied with the pace of the Prosecutor General's Office, but this is because the institution works according to Soviet principles as it has not been reformed after Moldova proclaimed its independence.
As to Mihai Ghimpu's intention to propose dismissing the administration of the Supreme Court of Justice, Alexandru Tanase said he is glad that the decision makers join forces at least at the end of the mandate.
“The problems faced by the Supreme Court of Justice can be solved only by replacing the administration. Our message was twisted or interpreted as personal attack on Mister Muruianu or Missis Moldovan (the Court's president and vice president), who we demanded to be dismissed at least two times,” the minister said.
Referring to Acting President's intention to summon Prosecutor General to present a report on the investigation of the April 2009 events in Parliament, Alexandru Tanase said it is normal for a public servant to report on the work done, adding he would go himself to report before the MPs is he was Prosecutor General so as to prevent speculation.
