June 9, when folk music singer Iurie Sadovnic, promoter of the national and cultural values, will be buried, was declared a national day of mourning in Moldova. President Maia Sandu on June 8 signed a decree to this effect, IPN reports.
According to the presidential press service, the national flags all over the country will be flown at half-mast and a moment’s silence will be observed at 12 noon. The funeral will be broadcast live by the National Public Broadcaster “Teleradio-Moldova”.
The public authorities, enterprises and organizations are recommended to avoid staging recreational activities, while the editorial offices of newspapers, radio stations and TV channels are asked to take into account the specific features of June 9 when editing publications and forming the programs for this day.
Iurie Sadovnic was awarded the title of Emeritus Artist of the MSSR (1984), the Civic Merit Medal (1993), “Mihai Eminescu” Medal (2000), the title of People’s Artist of the Republic of Moldova (2011) and the Order of the Republic (2015), which is the highest state award.
