Three years after the International Children’s Day celebrated on June 1 was included in the Parliament Decision on commemorative days, public holidays and nonworking days in Moldova, the Labor Code hasn’t been yet modified to stipulate this day as a nonworking day. In a repose to an inquiry made by IPN, the Government said the nonworking days are enumerated in Article 111 of the Labor Code and June 1 is not among these.

Currently, a working group consisting of representatives of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, the National Employers Confederation and the National Confederation of Trade Unions is negotiating amendments to the Labor Code, including to Article 111.

After Parliament adopted the given amendments, the Government annually approved a decision by which it declared June 1 a day off for which the public sector employees worked on another day. This year such a decision wasn’t approved as June 1 falls on a Saturday when most of the public sector employees do not work.
