Moldovan judoka Denis Vieru has won a bronze medal at the 2022 World Judo Championships held in Tashkent. In the last match, he beat Georgia’s Vazha Margvekashvili, IPN reports.
Denis Vieru also managed to defeat Strahinja Buncic, of Serbia, Alberto Gaitero of Spain and Ukraine’s Bogdan Iadov. Also in the 66 kg weight class, Radu Izvoreanu won against Bulgaria’s Yanislav Gerchev but lost to Willian Lima of Brazil.
On his way to the gold medal, Vieru was stopped by one of the two Japanese judokas who competed in the 66 kg weight class - Hifumu Abe. The latter defeated his compatriot Joshiro Maruyama in the match for gold.
