Judoka Adil Osmanov has won the bronze medal at the Paris Olympic Games. In the small final of the 73 kg weight class, he defeated Italy’s Manuel Lombardo, European champion in 2021 and double world vice-champion, IPN reports.

After his performance at the Olympic Games, the judoka told the media service of the National Olympic and Sports Committee that winning a medal was not a surprise for him as he worked very hard for it. Adil Osmanov also said that he dedicates the medal to his father, who did not get to see him participate in the Olympic Games, but he really wanted one of his children to win a medal at the Olympics. The athlete fought even if he had a shoulder trauma and fever.

The athlete was congratulated by the President’s Office and the Government. “Congratulations, Adil! You made a brave debut. You fought with passion and were fully rewarded. Big congratulations to the coaching team and to all those who supported you,” Maia Sandu posted on Facebook.

Prime Minister Dorin Recean also described the Moldovan judoka’s success as an extraordinary performance for the whole Moldovan judo. “Excellent news from Paris: judoka Adil Osmanov brings the second bronze medal for the Republic of Moldova from the Olympic Games. Congratulations, Adil, on your effort, sacrifice, discipline and perseverance! The whole country is proud of your success!”, said Dorin Recean.

On July 30, Mikhail Latyshev will make his debut at the same sporting event. In the men’s 81 kg competition in judo, he will meet Georgia’s Tato Grigalashvili, world champion for the last three years. Another Moldovan judoka, Denis Vieru, won the bronze medal in the 66 kg weight category two days earlier.

The athletes from the Republic of Moldova who will rank first at the Olympic Games will be awarded 3 million lei. Those who will occupy the second place will receive 2.6 million lei and those who will bring the bronze will collect 2 million lei. The athletes who will rank fourth or fifth will receive 600,000 lei. Those who will be in the sixth, seventh and eighth places will be awarded 400,000 lei, 300,000 lei and, respectively, 200,000 lei.
