A Judicial Inspection body was created with the Superior Council of Magistrates, which aims at facilitating a high-quality and prompt work of this body. The Parliament approved a draft law in this respect on Friday, July 13. The judicial inspection will include 5 inspectors – judges elected by the Supreme Council of Magistrates for a period of 4 years, persons who are bachelors of Law, with a judicial experience of at least 10 years and with a good reputation. The Judicial Inspection will have the following attributions: verify the organisational activity of the courts during lawsuits; examination of petitions send by the citizens to the SCM on issues related to the conduct of judges; verification of the requests sent to the SCM by the Prosecutor General on starting penal proceedings, examination of the procedural acts, which according to the law require the consent of the Council etc. To avoid the possibility of influencing the judge-inspectors, they will be granted inviolability guarantees included in the Law on the status of judge. The proposal to create this body was made at the annual conference of Judges on February 2007.
