The judge of inquiry or a court could apply judicial control for at most 60 days. Relevant amendments and supplements to the Penal Procedure Code were adopted by Parliament in the first reading on March 22, IPN reports.

Under the proposed changes, the measure can be imposed for at most 12 months cumulatively on a person accused of committing offenses for which the law stipulates jail terms of at most 12 years and for at most 24 months if the person is accused of offenses punished with jail terms longer than 12 years.

The local police body will be obliged to regularly check how the person under judicial control fulfills the obligations and will immediately inform the judge in case of deviations.

The amendments maintain the release on bail. The measure will be checked periodically, but not rarer than once in 60 days by the judge that imposed the measures. It is proposed that the release on bail should be imposed for at most 12 months cumulatively on a person accused of committing offenses for which the law stipulates jail terms of at most 12 years and for at most 24 months if the person is accused of offenses punished with jail terms longer than 12 years.

The bill is to be passed in the final reading.
