A judge will be tried for influence peddling after he asked for 150,000 lei from a lawyer who requested him to help him win a number of civil lawsuits centering on the protection of professional reputation by obliging the defendant to deny the spread information, to apologize publicity and to pay damages, IPN reports.

According to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, the lawyer also asked the judge to modify the sentence of the first court that convicted a person to jail.

The judge does not accept blame. If he is found guilty, he will be fined 100,000 to 120,000 lei or will serve two to seven years in prison.

To make sure that the court judgment will be executed, 7,600 lei, €5,740 and US$1,810 and bank accounts to the value of over 520,000 lei possessed by the judge were sequestrated.
