A judge will be tried for unjust enrichment and indication of false information in statements. The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office said the investigation was completed and the case was sent to court, IPN reports.
The prosecutors established that the judge intentionally didn’t indicate revenues of 48,000 lei obtained in the form of a deposit made by a citizen on his bank card in the tax return for 2016.
In his tax return for 2016, the judge showed that he bought a vehicle at the price of 450,000 lei, but the real purchase price was €41,000, which is equal to over 895,000 lei, according to the exchange rate of the central bank when the purchase was made.
The property of the judge and his family included possessions whose value was much higher than their revenues and thus couldn’t have been obtained legally. The judge and his wife for 2014-2016 declared incomes of almost 1.5 million lei, but the two in the period made payments of over 2 million lei, including with their banks cards and with cash withdrawn from these.
The judge faces a fine of 200,000 to 300,000 lei or at most one year in jail for false statements and a fine of 400,000 to 500,000 lei or seven to 15 years in jail for unjust enrichment, in both of the cases with ban on holding particular posts for a period of 10 to 15 years.
The prosecutors seized property and financial resources totaling over 1 million lei from the judge.
