On April 20-22, the East-European Centre for Democracy (Poland) and the Independent Press Association (Moldova) organised training sessions on writing articles about municipal and local public funds management, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to IPA, 22 journalists of national and local print media in Moldova attended the courses moderated by experts from Poland, Janusz Piechocinski, director of Transports Consultants Group, and Alicja Molenda, director of local newspaper “Przelom”, as well as by experts from Moldova Veaceslav Ionita and Viorel Furdui. The trainees gained knowledge of principles of formation and management of public municipal and local funds, international and national legislation regarding combating of corruption. Moreover, the journalists were familiarised with the main provisions of the European Charter of Local Self-Government and principles of formation of local budgets in Poland. The training courses are part of the project “Journalists for transparency in managing public funds in Moldova”, conducted by the East-European Centre for Democracy in partnership with the Independent Press Association and funded by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED). A contest of articles on public funds management was launched under the project by the local and municipal authorities. The authors of the best investigations will pay a study trip to Poland.
