The participants in the third Media Forum of Moldova that took place in Chisinau during November 14-15, 2017 adopted a Resolution whereby they condemn the lack of coherent public policies to limit monopolies in the mass media and related areas, which negatively affects the quality of information provided to media consumers and allows using the press as an instrument of manipulation and propaganda, IPN reports.

The Resolution contains the main demands addressed to the authorities for creating a high-quality media framework for the benefit of society. The Forum participants requested the authorities to hasten the supplementation of the legal framework regulating the activity of the national mass media and to adjust it to the EU legislation and good international practices.

They also requested to supplement the national action plan for implementing the Moldova – EU Association Agreement on the media segment and to strengthen cooperation with civil society and the mass media so as to achieve the objectives set by the Media Forum.

The representatives of the media outlets are asked to report cases of censorship, to oppose political control and to fulfill their duties for the benefit of the people and in accordance with the professional standards.

During the next few weeks, a working group consisting of media experts and facilitators of the workshops held as part of the Medias Forum will formulate supplements to the roadmap for the development of the mass media in the Republic of Moldova that was worked out at the previous events of the kind.

Later, the text will be transmitted to the authorities, embassies, foreign representative offices, international organizations and institutions that monitor the development of democracy in the Republic of Moldova.
