Media non-governmental organizations condemn the behavior of the guard of the Executive Committee of Gagauzia who physically and verbally assaulted the CU SENS film crew. The guard tried to prevent the journalistic work of reporters who intended to attend the public meeting of the authority, IPN reports.

The case was recorded on February 26. Journalists were also banned from filming outside the building. The police were called to the scene by representatives of the executive committee, who drew up a report and declared that the journalists could continue their work.

In this context, the media organizations call on law enforcement bodies to punish the assailant for intentionally hindering media activity and intimidating journalists.

They also asked the Executive Committee of Gagauzia to ensure the disciplinary responsibility of the security guard and to make sure that all representatives of the authority adopt proper conduct in relation to media outlets and journalists.

According to the Law on Freedom of Expression, the state guarantees freedom of expression of the press, and unlawful hindering of media activity entails criminal liability. Also, obstructing access to public meetings of the authorities and insulting people in public places are criminalized by law.
