The journalists who want to cast light on cases of corruption, money laundering or conflicts of interests face the risk of being bribed in Moldova, said the head of the Association of Independent Telejournalists Aneta Grosu, quoted by IPN.

In an event centering on the transparency of public servants’ property, she said that not only the investigative journalists face such a risk. The entire guild is exposed to this risk because the authorities do not want to support the journalists who discover and reveal cases of money laundering or corruption.

Aneta Grosu also said that attempts are made to bribe the journalists so that they keep silent, and the possibility of somebody setting a trap for the journalists is very great. “There were cases when persons tried to bribe journalists so that they stopped investigating certain cases. This is serious. The attempts to corrupt the press must be discussed more in the public area,” stated the head of the Association of Independent Telejournalists.

In the same connection, Aneta Grosu said the lack of a law service in editorial offices often leads to self-censuring as the journalists fear they will be held criminally accountable.
