The reported incidents in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova that have taken place over the last days are detrimental to the security and stability of the Republic of Moldova. The European Union calls on the responsible actors to avoid the destabilization of the situation, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, Vice-President of the European Commission, noted in a statement.

“We strongly welcome the restrained reactions from the authorities of the Republic of Moldova, which help maintain calm in the country. The EU stands in solidarity with Moldova and reiterates its unwavering support to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova within its internationally recognized borders and with a special status for the Transnistrian region,” runs the statement.

“To support Moldova in addressing the impact of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, the EU is providing comprehensive aid to address the immediate challenges of the refugee inflow, and has stepped up its medium-term support to strengthen Moldova’s overall resilience”.

On April 25, the state security ministry in Tiraspol was attacked with grenade launchers. The airdrome in Tiraspol was attacked and two radio transmitters were destroyed in Mayak village one day later. The Transnistrian administration issued a red security alert for a 15-day period. Checkpoints were set up at the entrance to the region and checks were intensified. The local educational institutions will apply online learning until the end of the academic year.
