Joint teams of the General Urban Mobility Division and of the Police in Chisinau will examine the high-risk areas for traffic accidents and will take additional measures to warn pedestrians and drivers to be prudent in traffic, IPN reports.

“We aim to this way warn the drivers to adjust the travel speed to the weather conditions. We aim to warn them to be very attentive and slow down at crosswalks so as to avoid tragic cases similar to those reported in the recent past,” the head of the General Urban Mobility Division Vitalie Mihalache stated in the ordinary meeting of officials of municipal services and divisions.

Deputy mayor Ilie Ceban proposed examining the opportunity of decreasing the speed limits on particular road sections, like on the viaduct in Botanica. He referred to a study concerning the introduction of the speed regime of 30 km/h in the historical center of Chisinau. “Such measures are often introduced all over the European Union, all the large capital cities in the EU, with the aim of reducing pollution and the number of road accidents,” stated Ilie Ceban.

Speeding was the cause of about 30% of the road traffic violations reported this weekend.
