The Moldovan authorities’ tendency to restore control over the central/Transnistrian sector of the Moldovan-Ukrainian state border is absolutely normal and legitimate, said Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Lilian Darii, who discussed the joint Moldovan-Ukrainian checks at the border crossing point Cuciurgan-Pervomaisc in a meeting with representatives of the EU Delegation, Embassy of Russia and Embassy of Ukraine in Moldova, IPN reports.

The joint control at Cuciurgan-Pervomaisc will be carried out based on the Moldovan-Ukrainian intergovernmental agreement of March 11, 1997 and the protocol between the customs and border guard services of November 4, 2015.

Lilian Darii noted that the goal of joint control at the border crossing point Cuciurgan-Pervomaisc is to contribute to facilitating traffic of goods, transport and persons and this will no way affect the interests of the business entities and private individuals from the Transnistrian region. On the contrary, this will lead to the stimulation of export-import operations in the region, including those covering goods on which excise duties are levied, in particular by considerably reducing the waiting time in customs and transport costs.

The deputy minister said such joint control has been performed for many years at the Moldova-Ukrainian border crossing points Briceni-Rososheny, Criva-Mamaliga, Larga-Kelmentsy and Giurgiulesti-Reni.
