The crossing of the Leușeni-Albița frontier post will be facilitated based on an agreement with the Romanian authorities. The waiting time at this border crossing point will be reduced by joint Moldovan-Romanian border control according to the one-stop shop principle. The first round of negotiations on the agreement with the Government of Romania was already held, IPN reports.

The Ministry of Home Affairs said the joint border control will help to enhance the institutional capacities of the border authorities and to harmonize the control procedures with the EU standards. The agreement will contribute to ensuring the security of the border between the Republic of Moldova and Romania and national security and to preventing and fighting transnational organized crime.

The negotiations on the text of the agreement will continue by holding several rounds of talks in the immediate period. They will involve representatives of a number of state institutions, such as the General Border Police Inspectorate, the Customs Service, the Ministry of Justice, and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development.
