The U.S. senators and Prime Minister Iurie Leanca discussed the importance of intensifying the dialogue between the two states and the attraction of U.S. investments to Moldova. The U.S. delegation headed by Senator John McCain also includes Senators John Barrasso, John Hoeven and Ron Johnson, who represent the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations and the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the Government, the officials also discussed possibilities of strengthening the commercial relations between the two states and of increasing energy security, the developments in the region and the Transnistrian conflict settlement.

Iurie Leanca expressed his conviction that the Strategic Dialogue launched during his recent visit to the United States will improve the bilateral cooperation by creating a permanent mechanism of consultations so that this dialogue turns into a strategic partnership.

“We consider that this visit is an expression of solidarity, a message regarding the continuation of the tradition of friendship and political support between our countries that gains special significance in 2014, which is crucial for Moldova’s European destiny,” said the head of Government.

For their part, the U.S. senators confirmed the political support of the United States and the financial support for developing Moldova and for doing reforms in different areas. John McCain said the U.S. will help Moldova, which now covers an important stage on its path to the EU. “We support you, we believe in you and know that you go through a difficult patch,” he stated.

John McCain came to Chisinau for the second time. His first official visit took place in 2011.
