In his first address to the United Nations, the President of the United States Joe Biden promised to cooperate with the allies “in a decisive decade for our world”. The President mentioned also Moldova in his speech, when he spoke about the power of democracy. Later, President Maia Sandu came with thanks, saying our accomplishments are seen even in New York, IPN reports.

Joe Biden said the U.S. aims to lead on global stage, but with the assistance of its allies and partners. “To deliver for our own people, we must also engage deeply with the rest of the world. […] And so, I believe we must work together as never before,” said President Biden, being quoted by RFE/RL’s Moldovan Service.

The U.S. President mentioned also Moldova in his speech when speaking about the power of democracy. “The authoritarianism of the world may seek to proclaim the end of the age of democracy, but they’re wrong. The truth is: The democratic world is everywhere.  It lives in the anti-corruption activists, the human rights defenders, the journalists, the peace protestors on the frontlines of this struggle in Belarus, Burma, Syria, Cuba, Venezuela, and everywhere in between. It lives in the brave women of Sudan who withstood violence and oppression to push a genocidal dictator from power and who keep working every day to defend their democratic progress. It lives in the proud Moldovans who helped deliver a landslide victory for the forces of democracy, with a mandate to fight graft, to build a more inclusive economy,” stated Joe Biden.

Later, President Maia Sandu thanked the President of the U.S. for the approval of the choice made by the Moldovans – to fight for democracy, to fight corruption and to build a more inclusive economy.
