The Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure discussed the possibility of implementing a technical/financial assistance project to support Moldovan small and medium-sized enterprises, including small farmers, with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). A final decision will be taken by JICA until this October. The value of the technical assistance that will be provided to Moldova in this regard will become known then, IPN has learned from the Ministry.
Deputy Prime Minister Octavian Calmac, minister of economy and infrastructure, said one of the Government’s priorities in the process of developing SMEs is to create instruments of support for realizing the regional potential of the national business entities and developing new instruments for marketing products on foreign markets that are not traditional for Moldovan products. Japan’s experience in supporting local producers and using the competitive advantage to create industrial regional development poles will essentially contribute to achieving these objectives.
In the meeting, Yojiro Fujiwara, the representative of the Japanese company Padeco Co., Ltd, presented the main lines of the new project, noting that this is based on the Japanese model “One village – one product” and pursues the goal of developing the agrifood sector in different regions of the Republic of Moldova and promoting products from these areas on the domestic and foreign markets. “Modernization of the agricultural sector, enhancement of food safety, extension of the supply chain for consumers are only some of the directions of the technical assistance that will be offered to Moldovan enterprises within the project,” said Yojiro Fujiwara.
The interlocutors agreed to coordinate all the aspects of the project by the end of this September so that the project could be implemented starting with 2018.
