The Jewish cemetery located in Chisinau will be transferred from the City Hall under the management of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research. A draft decision to this effect was adopted in the November 27 meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council, IPN reports.
The Jewish cemetery is a historic monument that is over 12 hectares in area. It includes graves and monuments that are about 300 years old.
Earlier, Prime Minister Pavel Filip asked to work out a plan of action for rehabilitating the cemetery and building a Jewish cultural historic center in that place, which would include a number of historic memorials of the Jewish community.
The draft decision was adopted by the votes of 40 councilors.
