The Moldovan wine is excellent and I do not understand the Russian Federation’s boycott, the executive director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Jeroen Kremers, has told journalists in Chisinau. He noted that the national economy will be affected, if this crisis continues, because vine growing is an important sector for Moldova. At the same time, Kremers express hope that Russia will withdraw its restrictions soon. „The Russian Federation has disadvantaged itself because it will not benefit of good Moldovan wines any longer.” According to the IMF executive director, if Russia maintains its stance, Moldova will have to orient to other sale markets. „This will require some higher costs for Moldova on short term but it will lead to diversification of exports on long term.” Chisinau will host a news conference on April 11 concerning the outcome of a visit of the director-general of the Agri-Industrial Agency MoldovaVin, Valeriu Mironescu, and other experts to Moscow, aimed to find out the real causes why the Russian authorities have restricted the Moldovan wine imports. Russia restricted the Moldovan and Georgian wine exports on March 27. Moldova’s wines cover about 70 percent of the Russian market.
