The Republic of Moldova’s delegation to the Joint Control Commission suggests that the training process within the Joint Peacekeeping Forces should not be mounted near peacekeeping posts. The situation in the Security Zone was discussed in a meeting of the JCC held in Bender, IPN reports.
Moldova’s delegation suggested instructing the Unified Combatant Command to work out regulations so that the soldiers use the permanent units of the peacekeeping posts or training centers situated outside the Security Zone.
The arguments were presented to the other components of the Commission. The document refers primarily to the multiple abuses of the so-called “border guards” that generate the discrediting of the concept of peacekeeping operation.
“In the problem of optimization of the existent process of monitoring the Security Zone, which has been constantly addressed by Chisinau and rejected by Tiraspol, the representatives of the OSCE Mission in the Commission announced their readiness to take part in the designing of a new mechanism, if the sides reach a consensual decision,” says a press release of the JCC.
Several days ago, the Operational Group of Russian Forces from Transnistria staged military exercises on the left side of the Nistru. According to the Russian military authorities, the exercises were planned beforehand and involved about 100 pieces of military equipment.
