The members of the Joint Control Commission discussed on Wednesday, September 6 the situation regarding the Varnita harbor facility. However, discussions finished without any results. According to Ion Leahu, the representative of Chisinau to JCC, it was decided after lengthy talks to discuss the issue at the next meeting of the Commission which will take place on September 14. According to Leahu, Tiraspol is not wiling to recognize Moldova’s right to property overt the port. The cited source declared that at present the port is blocked, being patrolled by peace-keeping forces. At Wednesday’s meeting, also the report of the military commandment was presented. On April 21, armed Transnistrian forces took over the Varnita harbor facility, justifying this action by the fact that it is a subsidiary of the Beneder port which is the property of the self-proclaimed republic. The USA, the EU and GUAM condemned these actions of the separatists.
