Specialists from Japan will compile a database to draw up a digital topographical map of Moldova at a scale of 1: 50 000. In a communiqué, the Ministry of Construction and Regional Development says Japan will provide technical support in making the map in the form of a grant to Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Japanese grant forms part of the Creation of Database for Base Map for Development of National Spatial Data Infrastructure Project implemented under the Cooperation Agreement between the Government of Moldova and the Government of Japan, represented by the JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) Mission. Deputy Minister of Construction and Regional Development Anatolie Zolotkov said the Ministry is interested in drawing up a map at a scale of 1: 2 000 that will contain all the topographical elements of the land, including the areas with increased risk of natural disasters (earthquakes, landslide and floods). The JICA Mission headed by Hiromichi Maruyama, director of the Infrastructure Development Institute of Japan, will work in Moldova during August 5-23, 2010.
